Effective communication is KEY. Recognition of non-verbal messages Speak clearly, speak slowly, and ask the same questions of the clients you serve. Keep tone of voice pleasant Be able to follow protocol and work independently. Reading the plan of care prior to working with clients will help you learn more about his/her care needs. Follow all instructions provided by employer, family, and/or nurse. It assists with making sure the client receives the best care possible. Most of the time, you will be working alone in the home setting. Be sure to gather all the information you will need regarding the care needs of your client. Keep up on your physical fitness. Certified Nurse Assistant need strength and stamina for daily tasks like lifting and moving patients. Be sure to use good body mechanics to prevent injuries to the lower back, knees, etc. Take time for self-care, make sure to exercise, meditate, be still and relax. Keep all health appointments to help you remain healthy.

Be positive. Always have a great attitude when caring for clients and family members and working with co-workers. Smile! A smile goes a long way.
